CHEETAH RLI MAGAZINE
THE CHEETAH -The RLI magazine -in this picture a G Car just about to go on a call-out with a stick of RLI troopers (posed picture the rotors are not turning, the Tech would be doing a walk round at start up and would only enter his position behind the guns prior to taxi) John Corsie is pictured here and one can get a good view of his flak vest; also note that we used oxygen masks and not boom mikes on our helmets (bone domes), this was to eradicate outside noise. We also drilled the troops to always keep thier rifles in the horizontal as there had been accidents and damage to the helicopters on the early days of fireforce. When emplaning the troopers always approached the helicopter carrying his rifle butt facing forward.

Very interesting; about the rifles; did the Rhodesian Army also use "conditions" with regard to operating their rifles? I know the U.S. Marines use the following:
ReplyDelete- CONDITION 1. To place a weapon in condition 1, a round must be in position to be fired and the safety must be on.
- CONDITION 2. To place a weapon in condition 2, a round must be in position to be fired, the weapon’s action must be closed, and the hammer must be forward. (This condition only applies to weapons that have external hammers).
- CONDITION 3. To place a weapon in condition 3, ammunition is in position to be chambered, the chamber is empty, the action is closed, and the safety is on.
- CONDITION 4. To place a weapon in condition 4, all ammunition is removed, the chamber is empty, the action is closed, and the safety is on.
