C Squadron (Rhodesia) SAS

SAS TROOPER ARMED WITH RPD MACHINE GUN EXTERNAL OPERATION MAPAI (Le Petit) -Pencil drawing by Beaver Shaw

TPR. ALAN LOCKE SHAW C SQN SAS THE MALAYAN SCOUTS 1951 My father.

Seven Squadron worked very closely with C Squadron Rhodesian SAS on operations in and out of Rhodesia.

Choppertech describes some of these operations in detail.

My father Alan Shaw served with this elite unit in the Malayan Emergency with Walls and Reid Daly.

  1. Dear Gordon. The legend to the upper picture is incorrect. You write: "SAS TROOPER ARMED WITH RPD MACHINE GUN EXTERNAL OPERATION MONTE CASSINO -Pencil drawing by Beaver Shaw". In fact this is not Monte Cassino Op (Op Miracle). SAS did not participate in Op Miracle - only RLI, Selous Scouts, RhAF and Artillery units did. This picture actually is the portrait of SAS soldier Frenchman named Le Petit and it depicts him in the Op Uric, near Mapai. (See "SAS" by J.Pittaway, p.348)
